The desk I use in my library/office is purely analogue...our family computer is in my husband's study. I always do everything by hand first as I am of the generation where computers did not feature (my family didn't have a computer until I was 15...mid 80s 😱) so everything I write is pen or pencil first. So much so that I still need lessons to "learn" digital 😂
Aren't they, Lee? My love for them began when I was writing The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding and irises found their way onto my page. I grew up with a purely analogue desk too so completely relate. - you're not alone in needing lessons to learn digital! I'm right there with you. Realising that analogue and digital work needed separate space seemed so obvious, only once I knew it!
Absolutely LOVE this one, Holly and Austin. We are moving in the next couple of months and I am determined to have two desks too, and now I am GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. I'll now be finding a picture of an iris for my wall, too.
This conversation reminds me of a favorite poem by Mary Oliver, Praying. “It doesn’t have to be a blue iris…” many thanks for a sweet reprieve from other news.
Thanks so much for being here and reading, Zanni. I'm so glad there was resonance here for you. I'd love to see your analogue desk if you ever share it!
So much inspiration! Thank you, Holly and Austin!!!
Irises are such beautiful flowers 💜

Make it happen, Kass! Cheering for you. Thanks for being here, reading and sharing. If you ever share your desks and iris wall, I'd love to see them.
That's a deal.

Thanks so much for being here, reading, and taking the time to comment, Karen. Also for sharing Mary - she's always relevant, isn't she?
Lovely!! Irises!!! Thank you :)
Thanks, Austin!
Going to create two desks now!
Yes! I hope doing so bring you torrents of joy.
Enjoyed this. I have had two desks for a few years now…one for creativity and one for digital as well.
Thanks for reading and sharing your desks!
Love this post, Holly. I’ll think of irises often now, and I’ll set up my analogue desk today.
